What the AI swim coach looks at
Like a club swim coach breaking down film, the coach studies your swimmer's stroke frame by frame — reading above-water and underwater footage differently:
- Freestyle — high-elbow catch, body rotation (not swimming flat), head looking at the pool bottom, breathing to the side without lifting the head, and a kick from the hips with steady rhythm.
- Backstroke — a straight body line near the surface, pinky-first hand entry, shoulder rotation, and a steady kick.
- Breaststroke — timing (pull, breathe, kick, glide), a narrow kick with feet flexed, and a streamlined glide.
- Butterfly — rhythm and undulation, a low forward breath, and a two-beat kick driving the stroke.
Every analysis comes back as 3 coaching tips ordered by impact, each with dead-simple "try this week" steps a any beginner can do at the pool — kickboard, wall, or fins only.

Swim stroke analysis questions, answered
How can I analyze my swim stroke for free?
Film a 25-second clip of any stroke — above water or underwater — and upload it above. Tell the coach which footage type it is. The AI swim coach studies 10 frames and returns 3 personalized tips with practice steps — 5 free analyses per day, no sign-up.
What's the difference between above-water and underwater footage?
Above-water footage shows rotation, breathing, and body line. Underwater footage shows the catch, pull, and kick. Pick the matching type when you upload — the coach reads each one differently. If you have both, pick Both.
How do I film underwater?
A waterproof phone case or pouch works fine — film from the side of the lane, just under the surface. Even a short underwater clip of the catch and pull is gold for the coach.
What does the AI swim coach check in freestyle?
High-elbow catch, body rotation (not swimming flat), head position looking at the pool bottom, breathing to the side without lifting the head, and a kick driven from the hips with steady rhythm.
I lift my head to breathe — can it help?
Yes, that's one of the most common problems the coach spots. It will give specific drills, like breathing-every-3-strokes sets and wall-based catch practice, to fix it this week.
What if the swimmer is small in the frame?
Water distorts the picture and pools are big. If the swimmer is too small or the water hides the stroke, the coach says so honestly and judges only body position and timing instead of guessing.
Is this a replacement for swim lessons?
No — it's a free companion to lessons. A real coach sees your swimmer live and adjusts in the moment. Use Free Virtual Coach between sessions to lock in good technique.
Is my video stored or shared?
No. Only 10 still frames are pulled from your clip on your own device. Nothing is stored, and your video never uploads as a video.
